Ram Krishana Mission

This is twenty fourth painting of the series. The artist has painted a cobbler in front of Ram Krishna mission. The painting conveys a very beautiful meaning. Shri Rama makes no distinction between religion, caste and creed and showers his blessings to all and every one. Throughout his life Ram is emotionally attached to many socially subordinate castes such as boatman Kewat, the tribal Shabari, the poet Valmiki and the vanaras. His relationship with each is different, more by feeling than by rules. In the same way the cobbler makes and mends shoes for all making no distinction between caste, creed and religion. The cobbler is a devotee of Shri Rama so he has his shop near a place where another devotee preaches of Rama’s teaching. This is what Ramakrishna said about Shri Rama: “Sometimes I see that you are the whole and I am a part, sometimes I see that you are the master and I am your servant. But Rama, when I have the knowledge of reality, then I find that you are I and I am you”. The artist has painted Ram Krishna Mission of West Bengal in a village named Joyram Bati. The village is full of scenic beauty with colourful rainbow in cloud filled sky. Along with jackfruit tree there are many other trees. The buildings of the mission has thatched roof and boundary of wooden planks. The cobbler is a middle aged man with dark hair and batwing moustache and beard. He has dark eyebrows and fish shaped eye and few wrinkles on forehead. He is wearing a stitched cloth, a white dhoti and white doshala. The artist wants to express and share the philosophy that even if our work in life is humble; we should not apologize for it. We should be proud because we are fulfilling the duty given to us by our God, Shri Rama. As Rabindranath Tagore has said “God loves me when I sing. God respects me when I work”. It is his need in the particular place; all people cannot play the same role, like Kevat the boatman, though humble, has a very important role to play. As long as our work is to please Shri Rama, all cosmic forces will harmoniously assist us. As Shri Shri Paramahans Yogananda explains in his writings and talk that “In God’s eyes nothing is large or small. Where it not for His perfect nicety in constructing the tiny atom, could the skies wear the proud structures of Vega, Arcturus? Distinctions of ‘important’ and ‘unimportant’ are surely unknown to the Lord, lest, for want of a pin, the cosmos collapses”. So it is duty of every one to try to do little things willingly and enthusiastically.
