Sita Ram

Depictings a Sadhu having a rosary pouch in one hand and holding ektara a musical instrument with other hand. The name Ram is inscribed in the rim of the pot of ektara. The sadhu is an ardent follower of Shri Ram. Both his hands are engaged, either to sing the hymns of Shri Ram or to count the rosary in the name of Shri Rama and watching the two birds.

The sadhu is a follower of Ram and his means of realization and wisdom of the supreme is through chanting the name of Ram. This painting of the series reminds the viewers of Taranisen and Virabahu. Taranisen the son of Vibhishana was a devotee of Ram ,but fought for Ravana . Virabahu, the son of Ravana, was also a great devotee of Rama.

The bhakt is a middle aged man, with tuff of grey wavy locks in lower part of head. All the single hair is very minutely drawn with fine masterly brush work. The man with fish tail wrinkle and puffed lower eye has an intense look. He has a parrot beak shaped nose, lips of the lovely shape of new papal leaf and slightly recessed chin. The bhakt is wearing tulsi beaded two string. He has used a doshala (a big long scarf) to cover his upper part of his body.

In the background two birds are shown on the hill top loving and caring each other. The birds are very symbolic. The birds are not from the rocky hilly habitat but are satisfied with each other like the eldest prince and his wife of Raghu Kul who were meant to live in palace but was equally happy in the forest.

The birds are called saras, where sa means complete, or full and ras means amrit or holy nectar. The bird saras indicates complete holy nectar, meaning that which is always complete, full; that which never comes to an end. The bird couple indicates pure love of a male and a female as of Ram and Sita, which is complete and will never come to an end. Like saras they are committed to each other and always at peace, whether in the palace or in the forest, whether together or separate. The bright red and blue colour of the wavy sky is in sharp contrast with the soft tones of the devotee.

This contrast is creating a three dimensional perspective. The hills with steep slope and dark colour like blue grey and red is reflecting an age old plateau hill.
