Jeevan Mrityu

In this painting the artist has painted a painter who is drawing a jackal howling in the light of a lamp. The most interesting and significant feature is that to adjust the light from the lamp the painter had slanted the drawing board and used his thigh as a table. To show his continuous howling the painter has drawn many reflection of the jackal. The howling of jackal is considered as a bad omen and is related with death. There is a crescent moon in the painting; it reflects two different massages through it. One is it is night and the other is the presence of lord Shiva. There are many framed painting kept near the painter; one of them is of goddess Kali. A jackal is drinking blood from the head in the hand of the goddess. She is symbolizing death. A page in which Rama Naam is written is kept in the left hand side of the artist. The artist is a devotee of Shri Rama so before starting the painting it is his ritual to write Rama Naam. In this painting the painter is a young man with sharp features and well kept hairs of blue shades. He has a very well defined thin eyebrows and fished shaped eyes. The devotee has shaped nose, cupid lips and strong protruding chin. This painting is different from other paintings of this series because the artist has shown the shadow of the painter. The artist wants to convey that there are only two truths in nature, one is the omnipresent Shri Ram, and the other is death. It is like the two sides of the same coin. The artist through his painting conveys that Shri Rama is everything. He is in death, He is in life, our duty is to work, he is everywhere, and he is all the time with us. “In our ignorance, we thought we have lost it, and went around the world crying. It is like the two faces of the same coin and weeping, struggling to find the truth, while all along it was dwelling in our hearts. There alone can we find it” , like in the heart of Hanuman.
